The Book of Commandments
The Book of Commandments Section 15 - Councils
Thus Sayeth the Lord; my church shall be organized into bishoprics and counsels. The bishop is he who I ordained from the beginning to live and guide my children. The bishop shall be responsible for the welfare of all of the Saints in his bishopric, leading them unto me.
The bishopric shall hold the keys of guidance and wisdom under the direction of my prophet and his apostles. Bishops shall be provided for their means and necessities by my church. They shall be solely responsible for all affairs in their bishoprics.
A bishop is a man who hears the spirit of the lord. He is a prophet, able to listen to the fine matter round about him. He knows me and I know him. A bishop is attuned to the needs and the desires of his flock, guiding them lovingly on towards salvation, cleanliness and holiness unto the Lord.
Counsels are for groups, for studies and learning in all things which are expedient for Latter-day Saints. Counsels shall gather often, praying for the salvation of their fellow man.
Counsels are to seek out and gather my lost sheep. They are to waste and wear out their lives for the gathering of Israel, in preparation for the last days.
Counsels shall stay together and be one in all things. I say this again to be sure - my Saints shall be one in all things, both temporal and spiritual.
For no longer shall the blessings from heaven be wasted and trodden asunder beneath the feet of the unrighteous. No longer shall the light be hid amongst the darkness.
My children are precious to me above all things and my heart yearns to bring them back home.
Be of good cheer my friends; follow my words and my prophet, for he will lead you back home to your father in heaven.
