The Holy Scriptures Never Fail

The word of God is the literal embodiment of Jesus Christ on our pages and devices. It is the truth given to us by God, and the most important way the Lord draws us nearer to Jesus Christ.

Friends,

The Holy Scriptures are the literal word of God.

They are not simply a collection of ancient religious writings, interesting history, or moral lessons. They are the manifestation of the actual words of our Creator. Over time, His servants have recorded His words and His dealings with mankind, and those words have been preserved so that we may know Him today.

Something important happens when we open the Scriptures and read them faithfully.

Reading is a physical act. We open a book, move our eyes across a page, and understand the words. But reading Holy Scripture is also a spiritual act. We are receiving words that came from God, straight from the source. They enter our minds and our souls as literal spiritual food.

The Scriptures don't merely tell us about God. Through them, He changes us.

The Word Is Living

Jesus said:

John 6:63

“It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.”

Read John 6:63 in the Scripture Reader ↗

His words are spirit and life.

Reading Scripture should not be treated as mere study. The Scriptures contain genuine history, but something deeper takes place when we believe what we read and receive it in faith.

The word of God enters us.

The words on the pages of Scripture correct our thoughts and repair our souls. They teach us what the Lord requires of us. The simple words on those pages have the power to save us, simply by reading them.

Hebrews says:

Hebrews 4:12

“For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword ... and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”

Scripture is not passive. It works on us.

You might only have ten minutes in the morning to read. If you read with faith and believe the words, those ten minutes can change your life.

The Scriptures Cleanse Us

Jesus told His disciples:

John 15:3

“Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.”

Read John 15:3 in the Scripture Reader ↗

There is a cleansing that occurs in reading the word of Christ. If you engage in regular reading, you will be blessed with a greater understanding of life, God, and the world. You will have peace in your soul and more energy.

The word cleanses us even if we don't think it's possible. But it works if we believe it's possible.

Jesus prayed:

John 17:17

“Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.”

Read John 17:17 in the Scripture Reader ↗

We can't necessarily be saved by gathering more information. We can be saved if we believe in Jesus Christ, repent of our sins, and seek His help and guidance with all of our hearts and minds.

The Holy Scriptures are the instruction manual for this process.

If you faithfully read the words, believe them, and order your life according to them, the Holy Spirit has a chance to help you.

Scripture Teaches True History

The Holy Scriptures also give us a history.

We live in an age that expects us to accept its account of the world simply because it is told to us. The lies about history are rampant. But the Holy Bible and the Book of Mormon maintain the truth. They are there for us to study and reference when we want to be reminded of the truth.

The Scriptures tell us who created us, why sin entered the world, how God dealt with the earliest generations, how nations arose, how His covenant people were preserved, and how the Lord continued speaking through prophets until Jesus Christ came among men.

That record gives us a foundation the world cannot give us.

We Need the Whole Record

Paul wrote:

2 Timothy 3:16

“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.”

Read 2 Timothy 3:16 in the Scripture Reader ↗

If Scripture is given by God, we should want all that He has preserved for us.

The Holy Bible is indispensable. But the Lord has preserved other sacred records as well. The Book of Mormon, the Book of Commandments, the Pearl of Great Price, Jasher, Jubilees, the books of Enoch, the records of Adam and Eve, the Testaments of the Patriarchs, the Didache, and other ancient and restored records help us see a much larger history of God's dealings with mankind.

The complete canon received by The True Church is gathered together in our Scripture Library so that these records can be read together rather than treated as disconnected curiosities.

His Word Will Accomplish Its Purpose

The Lord said through Isaiah:

Isaiah 55:11

“So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.”

Read Isaiah 55:11 in the Scripture Reader ↗

The Holy Scriptures never fail.

They testify of Jesus Christ. They expose sin. They teach repentance. They preserve the truth. They strengthen faith. They bring light into a confused mind and order into a confused life.

The closer we remain to the word of God, the closer it continually leads us to Jesus Christ.

His word is truth. His words are spirit and life. They will not return unto Him void.

In Christ,
