Jesus Christ did not establish different versions of Christianity for different peoples. He established His Church and gave it one gospel, one baptism, one priesthood order, and one Lord.
Local congregations existed in many places, but they belonged to one body. Their unity was more than cooperation between separate churches; it was fellowship under the doctrine and authority of Jesus Christ.
Jesus Spoke of His Church in the Singular
When Christ promised to build His Church, He spoke of something that belonged to Him. Its identity came from its Lord rather than the name of a human teacher.
That singular Church stands under one Savior and one divine authority.
“Upon this rock I will build my church.”

Local Churches Did Not Invent Their Own Gospel
Teachers and letters moved between congregations. Disputes were not settled by saying that every local church could have its own truth.
The apostles expected shared doctrine because they understood the Church to be one.
Difference Can Live Inside Unity
The body contains different gifts and responsibilities. Unity does not require every congregation to have the same culture or personality.
It does require a common Lord, a common baptism, a common faith, and fellowship under the order Christ established.
“There is one body... one Lord, one faith, one baptism.”

Division Was Treated as a Wound
When Christians began organizing themselves around preferred teachers, Paul did not praise their freedom of choice. He asked whether Christ was divided.
That question should still unsettle us. Sincere Christians are found throughout the world, but sincerity does not make division the order Jesus Christ established.
“Is Christ divided?”

The Lord Is Restoring His People to One Church
The Lord is gathering His people back to Jesus Christ, His doctrine, His Holy Priesthood, His ordinances, His covenants, and the unity He established.
He has restored His Church and Holy Priesthood. We stand in that restored order today, founded upon Jesus Christ, governed through His Holy Priesthood, guided by Holy Scripture, and called to gather His people back into covenant with Him.
