Hold Fast to What Is True

The world is loud, angry, and increasingly lost. We don't have to be. We can stay close to Jesus Christ, know the truth, and opt out of the brainwashing.

Friends,

We are surrounded by people telling us what to fear, who to be angry with, and which side deserves our loyalty. Before most of us have prayed, opened our Scriptures, or even started our morning, we have the ability to hold the arguments of the whole world in our hands.

That is not harmless. If we live in that noise every day, it starts thinking for us. We become imaptient, quick to sarcasm, and we may jump to repeat things simply because we heard them.

Christians should be different.

Our first loyalty is to Jesus Christ and the peace and discernment He taught. That comes before politics, distractions, movements, and the pride of the world.

John 8:31–32

“If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

Slow Down and Remember What Is True

We don't honor Christ by repeating something false because the world says it's the truth. We don't grow our faith in dishonesty and parroting things that have popped up in front of us. And repeating lies does not make them righteous.

The truth is always there, even if it is inconvenient.

That sounds obvious, but it is surprisingly easy to forget the truth when we are raised in lies. The Holy Scriptures give us the truth of the world, from the beginning. There is no such thing as evolution, man has never been to the moon, and there are in fact only two genders; male and female, created in God's image.

The basic fabric of our 'modern' society is built on a sea of lies that were told before any of us were born. Lies of how the world works around us, what is important to us and even the timeline of the world itself. But through Jesus Christ and His Holy Word, we can in fact live in truth. When the lies of the world are overwhelming and there appears to be no way out, we can always return to the Lord and His scriptures for the truth. In the scriptures we can always find wisdom and truth.

James 1:5

“If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.”

Don't Hand Your Conscience to the Collective

Media is built to feed us lies. Headlines are written to get a response. Political groups want loyalty. Online crowds reward certainty and outrage.

Take comfort in remembering that Jesus Christ created the world and He has overcome all of it.

Sometimes it may seem difficult to ignore what is happening around us. We should know what is happening. We should care about our neighbors. We should speak plainly when something is wrong.

But we don't need to let the world decide who we are, or what kind of people we can become.

We can be firm in our faith, and not let evil in. We can hold true to our covenants when the world tries to pull us away. We can learn the beauty of life and how remaining strong in our convictions chases away all sin. We can choose light and truth, steadfastness and unrelenting commitment to the Lord and His unflinching laws of goodness and holiness.

Following Jesus Christ does not mean turning off our minds. It means bringing our minds, our judgment, our loyalties all under His authority and guidance.

The world is going to keep yelling. But it doesn't matter.

We can know truth. We can live in it. We can refuse to let evil into our homes. We can stay close to Christ.

That is not weakness. It is discipleship.

Hold fast to what is true, and let the truth make you steadier, harder to manipulate, and more faithful to Jesus Christ.

In Christ,
